I work for a college of dentistry which includes an Oral Surgery student clinic as well as residency program. Since implementing OMS Vision software, we've experienced several frustrations but most center around issues with how user configurations are managed within OMS Vision. I'll explain. The dentistry college is one part of a large complex of other colleges, hospitals, research groups, etc so this clinic's security is managed a lot more strictly than it might be a single practice clinic. For example: group logins are prohibited, each user must access through their own login, users must change passwords at regular intervals, and security patches must be regularly applied to every computer

Currently, individual user preferences are stored as registry settings so when a new staff or resident starts work at the clinic, we must set up that same user on every desktop that they will use. There are 12+ desktops in the clinic so it takes multiple hours to set up one user. We're also part of a residency program so there's a lot of turnover as residents come & go. Then, we continually have to repeatedly configure users because individual machines intermittently "lose" preference settings inexplicably. After discussion with Vision support, I'm pretty certain that the issue is caused by security patches that are removing preferences as part of a "clean up" process.

My understanding is that most clinics circumvent the issue by using shared logins. That option is not an option for large organizations due to risk of exposure of patient data and significant fines resulting from audit issues. When can we expect user configurations and preference setup to be moved to the database so that the application will comply with industry standards (preferences assigned to roles which are subsequently assigned to users). I understand that this development is a significant undertaking but it improves the stability of the application, makes user management more transparent to the right users, give application administrators the ability to easily and quickly manage individual users, and would ultimately allow the application to be marketed to larger organizations which are required to maintain higher levels of security.
